“Typhoon Shelter Crab” Seafood Dinner on a Sampan Boat
Description
Floating restaurants were all the rage in the 60’s and 70’s and they’ve slowly dwindled down to just 1 now (Jumbo does not count). Come with us to visit and experience the last floating restaurant in Hong Kong. This is the Real Hong Kong that is quickly disappearing due to gentrification so make sure to try this before it’s too late.
You will first experience an ancient Chinese Folk Ritual known as “Villain Hitting” by government licensed Granny Chiu using her shoe. After being freed of evil spirits by Granny Chiu, it’s a quick trip on the tram before we experience firsthand what it’s like to dine on a moored sampan. On the only sampan floating restaurant left in Hong Kong. The owner and chef are Tanka/Boat Dwellers, one of the earliest ethnic groups of Hong Kong, who used to work and live on a sampan boats exclusively.
If you’re an Anthony Bourdain fan, you’ll know that this is the experience he tried on his No Reservations show when he visited Hong Kong. We will of course try the infamous traditional Spicy Typhoon Shelter Crab that even he couldn’t stop raving about. If you’re looking for a delectable, authentic, and delicious evening full of tradition, history, seafood, & Chinese culture aboard a fishing boat, then look no further. This will most definitely be the off-the-beaten path experience you’ve been looking for.
