The Story of Hong Kong – Chapter 3: Past & Present of Hong Kong Island (History & Culture)
About the Tour
Our story begins with a walk into the oldest market street that is over 160 years in today’s city CBD. Over 200 years ago there were only 17 small local villages that accounts for around 7000 villagers in this island that hadn’t got a name then.
This market walk was part of Queen Elizabeth II itinerary in her first visit to Hong Kong in May 1975. This market walk will unveil a whole spectrum of old cultural livings of the local Chinese people who had been living there over 200 years.
In this 5-hour tour, you will visit the oldest part of the city centre of Hong Kong that you will walk into a street that is named after the first governor of Hong Kong when the British started ruling Hong Kong back in the year 1841 after the First Opium War.
You will explore the world’s largest and oldest dried seafood and Chinese medicine market that you will find out the most expensive foodstuff of Chinese people.
This tour is so different from other tours that you are going to visit the Point of Ho Ho Ho (Ho — 好 in Chinese it means good) at the Victoria Peak in a 30 minutes return hillside walk just beneath the summit of Victoria Peak.
With a further half a minute walk, you will be at the Point of Ho Ho Ho Ho, and further another half a minute walk, you will finally get to the widest and the best view point, the Point of Ho Ho Ho Ho Ho , that you can enjoy a 230-degree panoramic view of Victoria Harbour.
We will visit the oldest fisherman village in this island that gives the island its name today. We will board a Sampan to ventures into lanes of boathouses, the most unique niches of their living home ground, to see their livings in their most original ways back 450 years ago like no others have seen.
